Council OKs Funds to Renovate 2nd Triplex

A second triplex of apartments on East Adams Avenue will get a face lift and be offered as low-income housing under an agreement city officials reached with the nonprofit Orange Housing Development Corp.

City Council members unanimously approved a deal that gives the nonprofit agency $284,625 in loans and grants made up of federal housing funds last week.

As part of the agreement, OHDC will renovate the three apartments and provide property managers for the site, said Economic Development Director Linda Boone.

Rents will be affordable to those making “very low income,” Boone said. The agency projects that tenants will pay $555 per month for the one-bedroom apartment and $695 for the two units with two bedrooms.

Boone cited studies showing that one of the primary concerns of employers in the county was the lack of affordable housing for workers.
