Fujimori Tries to Ease Border Tensions

Peru’s president met with his top generals to find a way to defuse mounting border tensions after Peru charged that Ecuadorean troops had infiltrated its territory. During the meeting at the government palace, President Alberto Fujimori considered an internationally mediated plan to extend a demilitarized zone around a stretch of disputed border where the countries fought a war in 1995, a government spokesman said.
