From Times Wire Reports

Research into the cause of Alzheimer’s disease has for the first time identified a possible link with bacterial infection, health experts said. The bacteria, chlamydia pneumoniae, a known cause of common respiratory ailments, was found in the brains of 17 of 19 Alzheimer patients examined by a team of university biologists. The results of the three-year study, conducted by researchers from Allegheny University of the Health Sciences in Philadelphia, Wayne State University in Detroit and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, appear in this month’s issue of the journal Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
