King Has Surgery to Remove Gallbladder

King Fahd underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder. The operation was conducted in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and the surgery was successful, the official Saudi Press Agency quoted a royal court statement as saying. It said a medical team headed by a U.S. specialist operated on Fahd. It identified the U.S. doctor as Ted Pappas of Duke University. Fahd, 77, was admitted to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital on Aug. 2. The operation followed consultations with specialists from the U.S., France, Italy and Germany.
