Ruiz Beats Prandi for Platform Title

Defending champion Mark Ruiz, underlining his versatility, won the men’s platform title at the U.S. National Diving Championships.

on Sunday.

Ruiz, 19, who was third in the one-meter event at the Goodwill Games, won the national platform title with 630.81 points. Kyle Prandi was second at 616.05. They were the only divers in the eight-man field to break 600 points off the 10-meter platform.

Veteran diver David Pichler, 29, a member of the 1996 Olympic team, was third at 568.95. He won the three-meter springboard title Saturday.

Kathy Pesek won the women’s 10-meter platform title over Goodwill Games platform champion Laura Wilkinson, 489.09 to 476.55. Pesek won the title on her last dive.
