Key Moment for Reds Arrives
Ohio Secretary of State Bob Taft will announce today whether Hamilton County voters have a say about the location of the Cincinnati Reds’ new baseball stadium.
John Bender, Taft’s chief elections lawyer, heard arguments Tuesday for and against a proposal on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Backers of a plan to build the stadium on Broadway Commons, near Cincinnati’s business district, collected enough signatures to place the proposal on the ballot.
Opponents, including the Reds’ management, favor a riverfront site adjacent to the ballclub’s current home in Cinergy Field. They argue that the ballot wording would give the county a charter for no purpose other than to force county commissioners to build the stadium on Broadway Commons.
