Strohmeyer Lawyers Lose Bid to Delay Trial in Girl’s Slaying
Defense attorneys failed Tuesday in their bid to delay the start of Jeremy Strohmeyer’s murder trial.
Attorneys Leslie Abramson and Richard Wright had argued that they needed more time to prepare for the trial because Wright’s father died last week. The attorneys said Wright’s attention had been diverted from the case.
District Judge Myron Leavitt denied the motion for a delay, ordering that jury selection begin Monday as scheduled.
Strohmeyer, 19, is accused of the May 25, 1997, sexual assault and slaying of 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson in a Primm, Nev., casino restroom.
The trial was scheduled to begin Aug. 17, but the Nevada Supreme Court granted the defense a two-week delay so attorneys could examine evidence taken from Strohmeyer’s computer.
