Cairo Denies Holding Notorious Abu Nidal
Egypt is denying reports that terrorist figure Abu Nidal has been detained in the country. The public denial by Foreign Minister Amr Moussa is the first by an Egyptian official. The U.S. said it had been in touch with the Egyptian government but had “no determinative information” whether Abu Nidal is in custody. In recent days, several Palestinian officials have told news media that Abu Nidal--a Palestinian blamed for a reign of terror in the 1980s that made him one of the world’s most dangerous men--was either jailed or in a hospital with leukemia after entering Egypt from Libya.
