Timber Boycott

Share

According to “U.S. Activists Swing Ax at Canada’s Timber Exports” (Dec. 8), over 20 major U.S. corporations have agreed to join an international boycott of timber products made from trees clear-cut from British Columbia’s spectacular, but dwindling, old-growth forests. Good for them!

Disturbingly, the article goes on to note that The Times continues to use newsprint made of pulp containing byproducts of British Columbia’s old-growth trees. Companies such as IBM, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Lockheed Martin have made an enlightened commitment to environmental preservation by joining this boycott. Why can’t The Times do the same?
