The Frank Case
The list of dramatizations of the Leo Frank case (“Lynching, the Musical?” by Barbara Isenberg, Dec. 13) should include an episode of “Profiles in Courage,” a 1964-65 NBC series based on John F. Kennedy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book.
It viewed the case from the point of view of Georgia Gov. John M. Slaton, who knew in advance that his commutation of Frank’s death sentence would end his own political career and, perhaps, Frank’s life. Slaton was played by Walter Matthau in the episode, which was produced by Robert Saudek and written by me.
