Late-Term Abortion Ban Is Overturned

A federal judge threw out Iowa’s ban on a specific late-term abortion procedure, ruling that the law is unconstitutionally vague and violates privacy rights. Judge Robert Pratt said the law does not clearly define the procedure that critics refer to as a “partial-birth” abortion. “Because physicians are forced to guess at the act’s meaning, they are likely to steer far wider of the unlawful zone than if the act were more clear,” he said.
