White Cap Expands

White Cap Industries Inc. said Tuesday it purchased El Paso-based Sun City Construction Supply, paving the way for the Costa Mesa company’s expansion into into Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

White Cap’s ambitious expansion seemed stalled earlier this year when the hardware retailer called off plans to purchase Valley Construction Supply Inc. in Washington and then nixed a deal to buy Santa Ana-based Junior’s Tools, a 12-store chain that sells power tools.

But, as a result of its Sun City purchase, White Cap will introduce new products and Sun City will bolster its service capabilities, the Costa Mesa company said.

White Cap sells to professional contractors in the western United States.

The company’s shares closed Tuesday at $11.63 in Nasdaq trading, up 63 cents.
