StarBase Buys Internet Tools

StarBase Corp., the Santa Ana-based network tools maker, said Tuesday it plans to acquire some of Site Technologies Inc.’s e-business tools to bolster its own line of Web-based applications.

StarBase officials said they expect to pay $586,000 worth of stock--or about 750,000 shares based on the company’s Dec. 18 price-per-share of 78 cents--for three of Site Technologies’ Web-based tools: an authoring tool, a line of automated diagnostic software and a program that allows multiple people to develop a Web site simultaneously.

StarBase’s deal with the Scotts Valley-based software firm, which still requires shareholder approval, is expected to be finalized in the 1999 first quarter.

In the meantime, the two companies have signed a temporary licensing agreement that lets StarBase have the exclusive right to sell and modify these tools until the deal is finished.
