Roland Petit has stepped down as full-time artistic director of the Ballet National de Marseille Roland Petit, but the move will not endanger the company’s planned performance of Petit’s “Charlot Danse Avec Nous” June 9-14 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.

Petit will continue to work with the company six months a year and is creating a new “Swan Lake,” said Jane Hermann, vice president of touring in the dance division of ICM in New York, which is sponsoring the company’s tour. Hermann did not know if the move would result in a name change for the troupe, which is among the major companies in Europe.

Ballet National de Marseille could not be reached for comment.
