Re “Medical Disciplinary Actions,” Jan. 20: Why are we getting tough on L.A. County eating establishments for conditions that endanger public health (Jan. 29), while we permit doctors who have been found to endanger patient lives (or worse), to get off with only a slap on the wrist?

Of the very few doctors statewide who recently received suspended medical licenses, all but two had their suspension “stayed.” I suppose this kind of “justice” and “punishment” is what should be expected as long as we permit doctors to police their own. If the doctors of this state want relief from trial lawyers and baseless malpractice suits, let them propose serious reforms to cure this sickness.
