After Storm Today, Week of Clear Sailing

The storm system that brought up to 2 inches of rain to the San Fernando Valley over the weekend may have moved out of the area, but another system is on the way and will hit Southern California by this afternoon, weather forecasters said.

Scattered rain in the morning will give way to thundershowers in the afternoon and wind gusts of up to 25 mph, said Wes Etheredge, a meteorologist for WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information for The Times.

“You should see the heaviest stuff in the afternoon, but the system is moving quickly and should be out of the area by the evening,” Etheredge said.

Morning low temperatures are expected to range from the low to mid-50s, with highs in the high 50s to low 60s.

Morning lows are expected to be 55 in Woodland Hills and Chatsworth, 53 in Burbank and 54 in Van Nuys. Afternoon highs are expected to be 62 in Woodland Hills and Van Nuys, and 61 in Chatsworth and Burbank.

No rain is forecast from Tuesday through Friday, Etheredge said.

“After Monday’s storm system leaves the area, there is a change in the weather pattern,” he said.

Decreasing clouds and gusty winds out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph are expected for Tuesday, with morning lows in the mid-40s warming up to the low 60s by the afternoon, he said.

The forecast for Wednesday and Thursday calls for partly cloudy skies, winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph and morning temperatures in the mid-40s, with afternoon highs in the mid-60s.

Increasing high clouds and slightly cooler afternoon temperatures are expected Friday.

Morning lows are expected to be in the upper 40s to low 50s, and afternoon highs could reach the upper 50s to low 60s.
