Tap Water

In “Caution Urged in Reacting to Tap Water Scare” (Feb. 19), Raymond Neutra, chief of the division of environmental and occupational disease control for the state health department, said: “We feel very strongly there is a need to let the public know that the evidence is building, but there is a period of time where their guess is as good as ours as to what to do.”

Our guess is as good as his? His knowledge, experience and education about environmental hazards and illnesses, and all he can offer as an assurance or voice of wisdom is that his guess is equal and no different from the entire lay public who depend on our experts to lead and inform us? Are we to rest on the knowledge that by simply publicizing that there is indeed a water pollution problem that the public is then on its own for solutions? I am appalled.
