Baseball ‘Dynos’ Are Calendar Material

Mitchell Evans, a member of the Deerfield Dynos, had just one word to say when he found out that his baseball team’s photo would be included in a national calendar: “Cool.”

The 6-year-old boy’s mother, Jackie, was even more thrilled. “Well, I can’t wait to send calendars to all the relatives,” she said.

More than 500 organizations from across the country submitted photos for consideration in the 1998 National Parks and Recreation Assn.’s “The Benefits Are Endless” calendar.

The Deerfield Dynos, an Ice Cream League baseball club for children 4 to 5 years old that’s offered through Irvine Community Services, made the cut.

“Photo quality was important,” said Andy Stein, spokesman for Advisors Marketing Group in Oceanside, which produces and markets the calendars for the National Parks and Recreation Assn. “But we were also looking at regional factors, ethnicity, seasonality and diversity.”

The calendar includes trivia, quotes and information relating to parks and recreation. More than 20,000 of the 1998 calendars have been distributed.
