Weldon J. Fulton; Designed Southland Civic Buildings

Weldon J. Fulton, 85, Southern California architect known for designing libraries and community centers. One of Fulton’s best-known buildings is the “Camera Obscura” Adult Recreation Center in Santa Monica’s Palisades Park. He won design awards in 1970 for his Inglewood Community Center and Santa Monica fire station and in 1975 for his Pardee Sea Scout Base in Marina del Rey. He designed several community centers funded by philanthropist Marcellus L. Joslyn. Fulton’s designs included bank branches, office buildings and restaurants in Santa Monica, Torrance, Burbank, Cerritos, Alhambra, Bellflower, El Segundo, Redlands, Covina, Escondido and Fountain Valley. An avid horseman, Fulton was a member of the Santa Monica Mounted Police and rode in several Tournament of Roses parades. On Dec. 14 in Palm Springs.
