A Baltimore man who claimed “urban fear syndrome” caused him to shoot and kill a teenager who was vandalizing his car was freed after the governor commuted his sentence. Nathaniel Hurt, 64, served about 14 months of a mandatory five-year prison sentence. In exchange for early release, Hurt will have to sell his home and move out of the neighborhood. He also will not be allowed to own or carry dangerous weapons. Hurt was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and weapons violation for killing Vernon Holmes, 13 in October 1994.
