Mother Spared Jail in Slaying of Child
A mother who admitted holding her 8-year-old daughter down while her boyfriend suffocated the child was sentenced to five years of probation. Denise Solero, who pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution and testified against the boyfriend at his murder trial, was spared a lengthy prison sentence. But Judge Joseph Bruno in New York ordered that she must immediately notify her probation officer if she becomes pregnant, and child welfare officials are to request that any children she has be removed from her custody at birth. The judge also ordered that no children will be allowed to live with her unless she obtains permission from probation officers, the court and child welfare officials.
