Tennis Classic Ends Without Champions After Disruption

Share

Thrown out of kilter by rain Friday, the National Collegiate Tennis Classic came to an anticlimactic end Sunday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.

No championships were awarded in men’s or women’s singles or doubles and some of the teams, particularly those from out of the region or state, chose to return home early in the day.

“Players had to be back at school [Monday],” an official said.

It’s the first time since the tournament started in 1976 that no singles or doubles champions were determined. The tournament wasn’t held in 1986.
