Ex-Employed Mothers Forming New Chapter

Share

A South County scientist and mother will open her home to moms with careers who now find themselves more concerned with diapers than spreadsheets.

It’s the county’s new chapter of the national nonprofit group called FEMALE--Formerly Employed Mothers at the Leading Edge.

“You give up the identity that you had with your career,” said Nannette Yount, a group sponsor and a doctor of biological sciences. “That’s a hard thing. Another hard thing is the isolation you face.”

The group will help mothers make friends, form play groups and sign up for meetings and newsletters. On the national level, the group lobbies for more options for mothers with careers.

Mothers do not need to have given up their jobs to join, despite the group’s title.

The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Yount’s home, 28492 Avenida Placida in San Juan Capistrano.
