Professional roller hockey league founder Dennis Murphy has been named chairman and Bullfrog owner Maury Silver the president of an in-line league that intends to begin play in June.

Nine teams, including the defending Roller Hockey International champion Bullfrogs, agreed to join the new league during a weekend meeting of owners in Los Angeles, Murphy said.

According to Silver, the Bullfrogs expect to continue to play at the Pond. Other teams are expected to play in Phoenix, San Diego, Las Vegas, the Long Beach Arena, the L.A. Sports Arena, New York, Pittsburgh and South Florida.

The unnamed league expects to have a 20-game schedule that will conclude before Labor Day, Murphy said.

Buffalo, San Jose, St. Louis and New Jersey, from the financially ailing Roller Hockey International, sent representatives to the meeting but have not decided whether to switch leagues, Murphy said. He said the new league has given the four RHI clubs until Jan. 22 to make a decision.
