Terry Nichols

Re “Jury Deadlocks, Sparing Nichols a Death Sentence,” Jan. 8: Terry Nichols and Timothy McVeigh were two close friends but quite separated now. One received the sentence of death and the other will probably spend his life in jail. In this instance, the heft of guilt for the accomplice weighs less than for the one who pulled the trigger, even though they planned the bombing together. However, both have sold their souls to Faustus. This is a clear example of the insufficiency of justice.

* If the verdict in the Nichols case teaches us anything, it is that the phrase “rational jury” is an oxymoron.
