Road Rage
Re “Driven to Extremes in the Northwest,” Jan. 11:
I have an idea that may help lessen road rage, and it seems a proper thing for these huge companies to help their customers. We have probably all seen the dancing credit cards and the company “that cares” about the butterflies, foxes, etc. Well, how about some prime-time commercials showing proper driving techniques: proper way to enter, exit freeways, how important signals are, who has the right of way, where you can and cannot make a turn, etc.

The road rage story is part of a larger phenomenon that American society is facing. Winning. We see this on the football field, on the basketball court, in politics and in business. Winning is becoming the highest value in our society, to the detriment of a sense of justice, decency, and what some call “family values.”
I recall the words of Paul Joseph Goebbels, who said: “Important is not what is right but what wins.”
