Arthur Imparato Sr.; Home Sewing Newspaper Founder

Arthur J. Imparato Sr., 75, founder and publisher of the home sewing industry newspaper Fabricnews. The son of immigrant singers in the New York Metropolitan Opera, Imparato grew up in New York City, where he worked at the Butterick Pattern company. He was a publisher at McCall’s, where he met his wife, fashion and society writer Marylou Luther. In 1969, Imparato moved to Beverly Hills and started Fabricnews, which he published until retirement in 1993. By 1974, Barron’s hailed Fabricnews as “the bible of the home sewing industry.” Imparato and his wife frequently entertained fashion designers in their Beverly Hills home, including Gianni Versace, Giorgio Armani, Edith Head, Isaac Mizrahi, Oscar de la Renta and Issey Miyake. Imparato served in the Army during World War II. On Friday in New York City of heart failure.
