By late summer, the Walt Disney Travel Co. will be relocating its 150 employees to a new downtown building.

The City Council last week approved construction of a one-story, 25,000-square-foot building on a vacant parcel at Center Street Promenade and Lemon Street.

Downtown merchants support the project, said Joe Honescko, executive director of the Downtown Anaheim Assn. “Disney will bring 150 or more employees to the downtown area, which will certainly benefit the local businesses and restaurants,” he said.

For 25 years, the travel company has operated from the Disneyland Hotel. The company’s building will be torn down due to the expansion of the theme park.

The company wanted to remain in Anaheim to keep its existing employee base and to be close to its product: the theme park and hotels, Disneyland Resort officials said.
