Habitat for Humanity to Build 3rd House

Share

Plans for a third Thousand Oaks home built by Habitat for Humanity will be marked in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to the freshly graded site at 193 Flittner Circle to meet the owners--Connie Gutierrez and her three children--of the future three-bedroom, two-bath home. Gutierrez works for Lens Crafters in Thousand Oaks.

The new house will be nicknamed the “Target Home,” as Target employees are joining Habitat volunteers in constructing the house, which should be ready in July, said Habitat’s executive director, Ken Pyburn.

The discount chain makes it a policy to build a new home for low-income families in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in each community where it opens a store. Target plans to open a store in Newbury Park in July.

According to officials, Target has built 165 homes nationwide and has 50 planned for 1998.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide.
