Shaking Allegedly Kills Cancer Survivor

A 2-year-old girl who last month was found to have overcome brain cancer died after allegedly being shaken by her mother’s boyfriend, police said. Cindy Cordova died two days after being taken to Children’s Hospital in Adelphi with massive brain injuries caused by severe shaking, police said. Police have charged Francisco Lionel Garcia, 20, in Cindy’s death. Police said Cindy’s mother, Candy Joya, 17, had left the child with Garcia for 3 1/2 hours while she attended a parenting class.
