Re “Hearing Slated on Unlicensed Rehab Centers,” June 13.

The article unfairly represents that Alcoholics Anonymous “approves” of rehab and counseling centers. This is definitely not so. The meeting directories referred to simply list times and locations of “peer group” AA meetings. A founding principle of AA states that AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution. AA has never in recent memory endorsed or lent its name to any institution, especially rehab or counseling centers. I believe many will get the erroneous idea that AA approves and condones the actions and programs initiated of groups such as the one in North Hollywood, when in fact it has no say-so or right.
