New Leader Removes Chief of Security

Moving to isolate a hard-line supporter of the nation’s late dictator, the country’s new leader, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, has replaced the powerful chief of security, officials said in Lagos. Maj. Hamza Mustapha, who headed the late leader Gen. Sani Abacha’s personal corps of bodyguards and wielded immense power as an advisor, was replaced Tuesday by Maj. A.M. Aliyu, officials said.
