Northrop Grumman Corp. said it is combining its Torrance-based Logicon Inc. subsidiary with its Data Systems and Services Division in Herndon, Va., in a consolidation effective immediately. The new unit will be called Logicon Inc. and will be based in Herndon, leaving the fate of the Torrance office and its estimated 60 employees unclear. Northrop’s Logicon and Data Systems units employ about 2,000 other employees in Southern California operations in El Segundo, Hawthorne, Palmdale, Pico Rivera, San Diego, San Pedro and Westchester. “We will announce any changes in the near future,” Northrop spokesman Jim Hart said. “But this is a growing business and we don’t expect major changes in personnel at the principal operating locations.” Shares of Century City-based Northrop, which is seeking to merge with Lockheed Martin Corp., fell $1.50 to close at $105.44 on the NYSE.
