Prison Officers

Share

As a sergeant for the California Department of Corrections I hope that the public does not stereotype all correctional officers due to the incidents that may have occurred at Corcoran State Prison. Most officers are true professionals and do a fine job under very adverse conditions day in and day out, with little or no recognition from the public or the media except when something negative happens.

In my 12 years with the department I have never seen nor would I condone any excessive use of force, much less any abusive behavior by officers. I only hope that the public recognize the Corcoran affair as an aberration, for to view us all as those depicted by your article would be a grave injustice. To my fellow correctional officers throughout the state, keep your heads up and walk proud because we do work the toughest beat in the state!
