Library Internet Access for Minors

* Re: “Libraries Are a Valuable Resource,” July 5 editorial:

I believe there are many flaws with having filtered and unfettered access to the Internet. Being under 18, I would be only allowed to use filtered Internet sites.

The editorial mentions nothing about the option for unfettered use provided I have parental consent. Yet libraries with only one computer are allowing such options. However, this means libraries would have to hire someone to check permission forms.

The best option is to have unfettered use for adults only. This option should only be used for computers solely designed for use of the Internet. This option does limit resources to minors but it prevents objectionable use. There are still encyclopedias, periodicals and books for students to do research.
