Opposition Leader Ends Protest in Car
Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi ended a sit-in protest in a car on the outskirts of Myanmar’s capital, Yangon, and returned to her home, government sources said. Myanmar’s government had refused a request by Western nations that foreign diplomats be allowed to see the Nobel laureate, who spent six days in her Toyota sedan behind a military roadblock. Government officials stopped Suu Kyi on Friday as she headed toward Bassein, 100 miles west of the capital, to meet members of her political party. She parked on a narrow bridge and refused to return to Yangon, and the military would not let her proceed.
