Representatives of the 16 countries involved in the international space station have approved an assembly schedule that begins in November, one year late because of Russia’s money crunch. Under the latest schedule, the space station should be completed in 2004. NASA estimates 43 flights will be needed to assemble the 1-million pound outpost. The Russians will launch nine flights; NASA will launch 34 shuttle flights to ferry station parts.
