Consultant Will Address Finances Under Cityhood
A consultant considering whether it makes financial sense for the community to seek cityhood will speak June 9 during a public meeting.
“What we’ll get is an overview of how everything fits together moneywise,” said Gary Thompson, a spokesman for the Rancho Santa Margarita Cityhood Committee. “This will be good information for the community so they understand what all this money we’re trying to raise is paying for.”
The analysis, being conducted by Walter Kieser of the Berkeley-based firm Economic and Planning Systems Inc., will determine whether the community, as a city, can raise enough in taxes to pay for services, including street paving and police protection.
The financial report will be one of the crucial documents reviewed by the Local Agency Formation Commission, the county agency responsible for approving annexations and incorporations.
Thompson said he hopes the cityhood question will go before voters by March.
