A 28-year-old parolee claiming to have a gun was barricaded with his 7-year-old daughter in an apartment on Bay Boulevard on Monday night after arguing with a family member, police said.

Hostage negotiators from the Port Hueneme Police Department talked by telephone with the man, identified as Mark Burboa, until 10:30 p.m., police said. Oxnard Police Sgt. Cliff Troy said his department’s SWAT team had been called to the scene. Burboa is on parole after serving time for possession of stolen property, said Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Chris Graham.

The incident started about 7:30 p.m. when Burboa’s brother apparently went to the apartment at 300 Bay Blvd. to talk about family problems and the two argued, police said.

The brother left after Burboa allegedly said he had a gun, police said. The brother then called Port Hueneme police.

Police blocked off several streets surrounding the apartment but no evacuations had been ordered as of 10 p.m., Troy said. A senior citizen housing complex, Hueneme Bay, is next door, Troy said.

A command post had been set up at a nearby grocery store.
