Disturbed Students

Regarding “In Room 9, Rays of Hope Amid the Chaos” (May 31), perhaps it could really benefit these needy, disturbed children as well as encourage qualified staff loyalty if the three owner-administrators dipped into their state-funded $100,000 salaries and increased their staffs’ income. (The article stated the salaries at this school were $28,600 for teachers and $15,400 to $17,600 for aides.)

Not many professionals I know would subject themselves to the kind of abusive and seemingly hopeless conditions described for a mere $10 an hour, even those dedicated educators who really do care about these disturbed kids.

Thank you for your thoughtful and poignant article on “nonpublic” schools. It illustrates what those who support school vouchers have in mind for those less affluent and privileged than themselves.
