Terrorism Expert to Discuss World Crime
The war against international terrorism will make a brief stop in Camarillo on June 18 when Dale L. Watson, chief of the FBI’s International Terrorism Operations Section, details the latest developments to counter terrorism.
Watson, former deputy chief of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center, will discuss how technological advances have changed the face, and increased the threat, of international crime.
“Watson has a real broad view of where international terrorism has been and where it is going,” said Cindy Cooke, executive director of the World Affairs Council of Ventura County, the nonprofit group sponsoring the event.
Cooke cited recent shootings in Oregon and worldwide attention to chemical weapons in Iraq as examples of the growing danger of terrorism.
“It’s nuts out there,” she said. “People feel real vulnerable, and I think that knowledge is power.”
Watson will speak at 6 p.m. at Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo.
Tickets purchased before the event cost $22 for World Affairs Council members and $28 for nonmembers. Tickets at the door will cost $32, but reservations are suggested.
