With the help of entertainment and sports figures including Jack Nicholson, Bill Murray, Alice Cooper, Cheech Marin, Marcus Allen and Scott Hamilton, the Hard Rock Cafe Celebrity Golf Tournament on May 18 at the Sherwood Country Club raised $380,000 for the Casey Lee Ball Foundation. The foundation funds kidney research and treatment at the UCLA Children’s Hospital. Now in its fourth year, the annual tournament has raised $1.2 million for the hospital.

Actress Shirley Jones and her husband, Marty Ingels, were special guests at the Friends of the Fulfillment Fund’s spring luncheon and fashion show May 20 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event raised more than $38,000 for mentoring and other services to encourage Los Angeles students, beginning in eighth grade, to aspire to college.

The American Heart Assn.’s 1998 research fund received $250,000, proceeds of the Strouds / American Heart Assn. Golf, Tennis and Fly-Casting Classic held May 5-6 at Industry Hills and Sheraton Resort.
