The body of a 40-year-old Rowland Heights man reported missing last week south of Laguna Beach was found Saturday near Aliso Pier.
Ta-Chen Wu had planned to spend last Sunday night fishing from the rocks near Aliso Beach, his family told police. Investigators suspect that unseasonably cold, high surf swept Wu off the rocks and into the ocean, drowning him.
An autopsy will be performed today to determine the cause of death, a coroner’s spokesman said.
A passing boater spotted Wu’s body Saturday morning and alerted the Orange County Harbor Patrol, said sheriff’s Lt. Marty Kasules.
Police and lifeguards began searching for Wu on Monday after his family found his van parked at the beach near the place where he often fished. Wu’s jacket and driver’s license were also found nearby.
The rough conditions claimed another life last Sunday. Neil J. Olsen, 40, of Anaheim drowned while snorkeling at Crystal Cove State Park.
