Milton Bearden’s “Don’t Blame the CIA for Bad Policy” (Opinion, May 31) demonstrates the paramount importance of an education in history. (The adjacent article headlined with Thucydides’ name was most appropriate.) By ignoring history, human robots repeat the same mistakes generation after generation.

Bearden writes that U.S.-Pakistan relations have gone downhill since the U.S. halted delivery of 28 F-16 fighters for which Pakistan had already paid.

Great Britain helped propel the Ottoman Empire into World War I on Germany’s side by refusing to deliver two warships for which the Turks had already paid.
