2nd-Quarter Sales at Costa Mesa’s Quiksilver Up 29%

Quiksilver Inc., the Costa Mesa designer and distributor of sportswear, snowboard wear and swimwear, posted a 15% increase in net income for the second quarter on a 29% gain in sales.

The company earned $5.5 million, or 38 cents a share, for the three months ended April 30, up from $4.8 million, or 34 cents a share, for the comparable period a year ago. Sales rose to $78.2 million from $60.8 million. Net income for the first six months increased 17% to $7.6 million, or 53 cents a share, from $6.5 million, or 46 cents a share, for the first six months a year earlier. Sales advanced 25% to $133.4 million from $106.7 million.
