LAUSD Costs

Share

In your June 4 editorial on the election results, you rightly observed that Prop. 223 could have caused bureaucratic chaos and perhaps damaged small districts if it had passed. You also made some unnecessary and inaccurate remarks about the Los Angeles Unified School District. The proposition was not aimed solely at LAUSD spending but at nonschool costs in all school districts. LAUSD is “mammoth” only in the sense that it has more students than other districts.

LAUSD’s nonschool costs (about 8%) are generally lower than other districts in California, and generally similar to other large districts throughout the nation.
