An Iranian court Wednesday revoked the publishing license of a leading moderate newspaper that had rocketed to popularity in its first year with daring reports.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency said the Tehran court took its decision against the daily Jameah after a six-member jury of government officials charged with monitoring the press heard arguments in the case, made by conservative opponents.

The newspaper, which backs moderate President Mohammad Khatami, can appeal the ruling.
