Applications for the 1998 Women’s Legacy Fund Grants Program are being accepted by the Ventura County Community Foundation.

The Women’s Legacy Fund is an endowment fund developed by contributors throughout Ventura County who seek to improve conditions for women and girls. Each year, the 150 founders of the fund review community needs and select an issue of importance to women and girls, said committee member Maio Winkler.

This year’s focus will be on programs that concentrate on family violence, child abuse, anger management and welfare-to-work transition. Programs that use mentoring or role modeling are especially encouraged to apply, Winkler said.

Applicants must be nonprofit, community-based agencies. The program must serve Ventura County residents.

Grant awards will range to $8,000 and will begin in September for one year.

For application forms or more information, call the foundation at 988-0196. Proposals must be received by 5 p.m. July 10 at the Ventura County Community Foundation, 1317 Del Norte Road, Suite 150, Camarillo, 93010.

The foundation manages a permanent endowment of gifts from county residents addressing a range of needs, including human services, education, civic affairs, health, the environment and the arts.
