SIMI VALLEY — A high-speed police chase Thursday ended with a car crash, a fractured wrist and a suspected child molester behind bars, authorities said.
Detectives had been searching for Robert Wayne Nelson of Simi Valley since Monday on suspicion of molesting an 8-year-old child. Acting on a tip, special-investigations detectives tracked Nelson to a parking lot near Los Angeles Avenue and Madera Road about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report.
When detectives attempted to stop Nelson’s car near Tierra Rejada and Madera roads, Nelson accelerated and fled, leading police on a chase of about three miles that ended when Nelson’s car collided with a tree in Wood Ranch, police said.
Police said Nelson fractured his wrist in the accident and was treated at Simi Valley Hospital. Police later booked him on suspicion of child molestation and evading arrest.
No other injuries were reported.
