City Manager on Paid Leave After Performance Review

The City Council has placed City Manager Alejandro C. Armenta on paid administrative leave pending a review on whether to continue to retain his services, City Atty. David Olivas said Thursday.
The council Tuesday voted 4 to 1 with Councilman Art Olmos dissenting to place Armenta on leave after a closed-door discussion about his performance, Olivas said.
The council voted unanimously to appoint Finance Director John Michicoff as interim city manager.
Armenta, 49, became the city manager in September after three months as interim city manager. He was previously city manager of Calexico on California’s southern border. City officials declined to provide an explanation for the council decision to place Armenta on leave.
